Oak Tyres aims to become first carbon neutral tyre wholesaler with partners Ecologi
Independent northern tyre wholesaler Oak Tyres has set its sights on becoming the world’s first climate positive tyre wholesaler.
Partnering with environmental organisation Ecologi, Oak will aim to ensure its vehicle fleet is fully carbon neutral within the next 12 months.
And you will be able to track their progress by visiting Oak’s virtual forest profile , where you will be able to see not only how much carbon Oak has offset, but also how many trees have been planted on their behalf through their partnership with Ecologi.
“This is an exciting project for us,” said Peter Cross, Commercial Manager of Oak Tyres.
“We are all aware of the looming climate crisis and the challenges of balancing maintaining our normal, everyday lives with making real, impactful changes to tackle global warming.
“Around 97% of Oak’s carbon emissions annually come from our delivery vehicles. We are currently exploring viable green alternatives but we are also working closely with Ecologi to invest in key projects to offset the carbon we produce in a meaningful way.”
The projects Oak’s carbon offset investment will fund include mangrove reforestation in Mozambique in partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects and peatland restoration in Indonesia.
Ecologi’s global initiatives focus on environmental restoration projects that reduce and avoid carbon emissions entering the atmosphere through highly certified climate projects. All climate solution projects with Ecologi are certified by either Gold Standard or Verified Carbon Standard.
Ecologi also funds reforestation projects here in the UK, meaning Oak is also contributing to the UK’s efforts to combat global warming and restore local biodiversity.
"We’re so excited to be partnering with Oak Tyres as they offset the carbon emissions of their entire vehicle fleet," said Dennis Hettema, Head of B2B at Ecologi.
"As they join the Ecologi movement, their support is vital in helping us inch forwards towards our goal of removing 50% of global CO2 emissions by 2040 and responsibly plant billions of trees every year."
